Celebrating Life: Holiday Hobbies

Take the time to enjoy the season and more simple pleasures.

Holiday Hobbies

Book Worms. If all you want to do on a cold and snowy day is to sit with your feet up reading a book, why not share your book adventure with someone else? Swap with a friend, family member or donate it to your local library. Everyone will be pleased with their newly acquired free book.

Start a book club. Ask around to see who is a book lover like you and would really enjoy meeting once a month over an evening to talk about it and/or to ask everyone’s opinion on what the topic was?

Brain fitness. Share your chess or crossword skills with a friend to keep your brains active. There are lots of online games that you can play individually or those old fashioned card and board games. A lot of these hobby games are so much more enjoyable when you play them with friends.

Buy green. Start a new hobby and learn as much as you can about buying green and become the family and neighbourhood expert. Host a get together buying only products that fit the bill and be sure to share your new buying green knowledge.

Have a foodie faceoff. Invite each of your foodie friends to make and bring an agreed to favourite main course and dessert and have a tasting frenzy.

Improve your golf game. Have fun and go to a local indoor driving range or putting green and have a family, friend or corporate challenge. The winner has to buy everyone their favourite drink.

Plan a trip with your friends. Let go of family responsibilities and grab the guidebooks and dig in. Having a new country to travel to and adding some adventure to it gives everyone involved something wonderful to look forward to.

Rent an indoor pool for an hour or an afternoon. Invite all of your friends and family to bask in this favourite summertime activity.

Ski Canada. More snow and for less dough. If your equipment is not up to date, fear not. With the changing face of high end quality equipment available for rent, and the latest technology, they have revolutionized the rental world and is luring many newcomers as well as ex-skiers back to the slopes. A customer can now be served within just a few minutes, from start to finish. Plan your time to be on the mountains.

Take a hike. Hiking is one of the most enjoyable ways to get out into our natural environments and work up an appetite. Not sure what you might need for the journey? A hat, high energy snacks, hot chocolate, good walking gear, map, sunglasses, sunscreen and warm clothes and two pairs of socks.

Take up ice skating outdoors.
The fresh air is good for everyone. Check with your town or city to see where the water has frozen over and has been tested for safety. Invite everyone back for hot chocolate with marshmallows or go to one of your local smaller restaurants to enjoy their winter heartier meals and perhaps even a roaring fire.
