Community: Fresh Goodies Available

For some people in the community it is difficult to make their budget stretch to include fresh fruit and vegetables in their diet. Other people just need motivation to eat in a healthier manner.

The Holy Cross Food Box Program helps people that fit into both categories by selling boxes of fresh fruit and vegetables on a monthly basis for $12. Everyone, regardless of income, is invited to partake in the program. Good Food Box Day falls on the fourth Friday of the month, from September to June. Boxes must be ordered a week ahead of time and be prepaid.

Typically a box contains the following: oranges, apples, bananas, onions, tomatoes, cauliflower, lettuce, broccoli, carrots, and potatoes. The delicious and healthy produce is valued at approximately $20.

Holy Cross Lutheran Church is located at 3455 Lakeshore Rd., Burlington and is west of Walker’s Line. The church is accessible by public transit.
