Arts & Entertainment: Enjoy the Flicks At the New Oakville Mews Cinemas

Imagine a movie theatre that serves real butter on their popcorn and only charges $7.50 for adult admission.  This surprising combination can be found at the Oakville Mews Cinemas, 171 Speers Rd., which re-opened at the end of last year.  Now Halton residents will have another option to supplement visiting the AMC theatre complex, situated near the eastern border of Oakville.

Ward 5 Town Councillor Jeff Knoll was the catalyst behind re-opening the cinema, which was closed by Cineplex Odeon in 2000.  Knoll founded his business, Film.Ca Inc in 1998 and in 1999 opened the Encore Upper Canada Place Cinemas, located on Brant St. in Burlington.

Since the building had been used as a church for the past few years, Knoll and his team had to re-erect walls, and reconfigure seats to recreate three individual theatre spaces.

The Encore Oakville Mews Cinema will offer a more intimate movie going experience and cheaper rates for movies than those found at other theatres.

Theatre listings are available by visiting Film.ca or by calling 905.338.6397.
