Fitness: Start a Fitness Tradition
What can you do to get started? Get outside as a family on Christmas Day and go for a walk. Everyone benefits from being outside in the fresh air. It can be quiet time away from the unwrapped gifts and while the turkey is cooking. Take the time together to appreciate all that you are blessed with. Be sure to walk at the slowest person’s pace whether it is your youngest child or the oldest adult. Plan your route to be a figure 8 so that anyone who gets tired easily can go home and the others can continue on. Skating is another great family activity. It doesn’t have to be all day. It can just be for an hour or so. Someone who cannot skate can sit and have a hot drink and enjoy watching the others. How many of you have played in the snow in recent years? Make it a habit to do more of it this winter season. And if the weather is not permitting or if cold is not for you, Go Indoors and spend your tropical time at a local pool. Every large community in Canada has a recreation centre whether it is on its own or connected to a library. Did you know that they all will have special events over the holidays geared to family participation? |
