For the love of the warmth of our home during February, many of us stay inactive indoors

By this time in our winter season, most of us are becoming a bit weathered, so to speak. The holidays have come and gone, the New Year is old news, and the novelty of a Canadian winter is wearing thin. Even if you’ve made peace with the high snow-banks, short days, and low temperatures, you have to admit February is when we want to be sitting cozily beside a fire.  It is also a month of romance.

In order to feel better and be healthier, we need to move our bodies.  A gym membership is not required.   There are plenty of other opportunities, both practical and pleasurable, to get us moving everyday.  Why not make it a family affair to shovel the driveway and have some fun playing in the snow while you are all outside.  Take the dog for a walk and go along for the run.  Skating is another easy activity that everyone can do for an hour or so.  Tobogganing at local parks is always a winter treat for everyone and the laughter is contagious.  Did you know that there are also glorious starry nights in the winter?  Get everyone out looking up at the sky.

Then there is nothing better than coming back in from the outdoors for some hot chocolate with marshmallows.
