Travel: For Freedom from Care
Things you shouldn’t leave home without:
- Regular medications and prescriptions in their original containers. Remember to carry all medications on your person, not packed away in your suitcase.
- Comfortable shoes and clothing (appropriate to weather and destinations).
- Sunscreen for all climates.
- Sunglasses with UV protection.
- Travel alarm clock.
- Spare pair of eyeglasses.
- Umbrella or rain jacket.
- International electrical adapter.
Before leaving home:
- Find out what attire is appropriate for the destination you are visiting.
- A good rule of thumb to follow when packing is to only take half the amount of things that you think that you need. Pack only as much as you can lift.
- Make photocopies of your passport, and keep these separate from your passport.
- Record the numbers of your travelers cheques, and keep this list separate from your travelers cheques.
- Leave a copy of your itinerary with a friend or relative, so they can contact you in case of an emergency.
Warm Weather Tips:
- Apply sunscreen and insect repellent (if required) a half hour before going outdoors.
- Bring lightweight, long-sleeved garb, and hats, for tropical destinations.
- Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
On the plane:
- Don’t stay seated for the entire flight; take a walk around the plane every hour or so to avoid circulatory problems.
- Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration.
- Limit your intake of alcohol and caffeinated beverages.
