Celebrating Life: Getting Involved
Hobbies offer more than just fun since activities for your body and mind are good for your health. How you fill your free time is up to you, and you just have to supply the interest and time to reap the benefits. Why not start the winter season spending some time making yourself happy, by starting or continuing a hobby that you enjoy? Here are a few ideas to get started. Baking Host a holiday cookie exchange or donate to bake sales wherever they may be held – in schools, churches, community centres, retirement residences. Crafting Can you make holiday ornaments, decorations, wreaths or start a scrapbook for a family member. Knitting Making hats, mittens and scarves. Whether you are making them for your church bazaar – for local children, babies, people in need, seniors There is a year round need for knitted hats for newborns. This is run by your local hospital auxiliary members. If you are not a knitter, have you thought about buying a couple of balls of wool and donating them to any of the above? Many people find these hobbies very relaxing. When your creations are donated to worthy causes, you will also find them very rewarding. If you have absolutely no talent whatsoever, share a kind word, a smile or a good deed. A random act of kindness goes a long way. It is good for the soul. See WOW this month for another variation. |
