Legal: Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT)
SALT is an advisory council and an action committee. Members provide a communications link between the seniors of the community, the Halton Regional Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police. The SALT program is designed to work as a sounding board for purposes of making recommendations to police to address crime related issues that affect seniors. If you have a crime related concern you are encouraged to contact a local SALT member. SALT offers groups of 15 or more seniors and/or caregivers the following free educational seminars: Frauds and Scams This one hour seminar will address current crime trends on fraud and scams in the region and throughout the province. Personal Safety This 60 minute presentation will explore safety when walking and driving, and will provide tips on protecting yourself and your valuables when you are traveling. Home Security This seminar will explain in simple terms how criminals are gaining access to homes in the community. You will be provided with simple and cost efficient tips on how best to make your home less vulnerable to criminal activity. Drive Wise Have you forgotten more driving basics than you remember? Have you lost confidence in your abilities? This one hour presentation is aimed to improve driving knowledge and the safety of senior drivers in the community. Abuse of Power of Attorney Is giving Power of Attorney going to cause you problems? Attend this seminar and find out some legal issues you need to be aware of before signing on the dotted line.
