Real Estate: Smoke Alarms Systems
Effective March 1, 2006 there will be new regulations in place regarding residential smoke alarm systems. The new Provincial legislation requires that each household in the province of Ontario must have a WORKING smoke alarm on each floor of the home (whether house or apartment), including all sleeping areas. Non-compliance with these new fire code regulations (applies to homeowners, tenants and individual landlords) can result in fines ranging from $235 to $25,000! Please check at this time and make sure that the smoke alarms you have in your home are in good working order and purchase any additional ones that you need, to be in compliance with the upcoming change to the fire code.
