Residences: Making the Most of Seniors' Residences
For December we encourage those who have loved ones living in seniors’ residences to use the facilities for parties and celebrations. Read the article below to discover the benefits of making use of these free festive rooms. Today all of our senior residences offer holiday celebration meals to the residents and their families. These can be enjoyed in the main dining areas, in the company of all of the residents, or you may book a family designated dining room, separate from the main one. You have the option of choosing from a special menu, using family linens or just enjoying what the residence has to offer. Also available are spacious, rent-free activity rooms for larger family gatherings. What are the benefits of using an activity room? All rooms are accessible and large enough to accommodate different family needs from strollers to wheelchairs For the hearing impaired, outside noise is kept to a minimum so they can more easily participate in conversations Buffets can be set up, adding to the enjoyment of the time spent together Extra seating can be provided for before and after the meal Remember to book in advance since using the rooms is becoming increasingly popular Last year I hosted a Boxing Day brunch celebration at my mother’s senior residence in Burlington. After the meal, the kids ran around playing with the residents’ animals, and the weary parents just relaxed and enjoyed their time together. Lots of hugs were exchanged and we are doing it again this year. Not sure about what to give as gifts to a loved one living in a long term care facility? Here are a few tips:
